Grip The small body matches a small prime perfectly The Z50 is a small, compact, lightweight camera that one can throw into a small bag and carry around with no issues, assuming you pair it with the kit lens or a small third party lens the 25mm prime from Meike. One of the original arguments for choosing mirrorless over a DSLR was that mirrorless cameras are lighter. The first thing that struck me when I picked up the camera was the weight. To some extent, some of the comments here also apply to the Zfc since the two cameras largely share the same specs such as sensor, viewfinder, single card slot and battery (EN-EN25) etc. Revision: As I am writing this article, the Nikon Zfc has just been released. Here are my thoughts on the Z50 from both a work and casual usage viewpoint. I have been shooting with Nikon ever since I started on my photography journey more than 10 years ago, and have gone through a slew of consumer and pro grade DSLRs in my quest to find value for money cameras that will serve me well in my work. Now, coming on 2 years after the release, I was able to get a used set in near mint condition and put it through it’s paces. Initially, upon the spec leaks, many Nikon fans groaned at the lacklustre specs, at that time, an APS-C sensor that was already in use for several years in the D500, no dual card slots, no AF joystick, no in-body image stabilization (IBIS), many were already calling the camera a failure even before it was released. In a nutshell, the Z50 is a great all-round enthusiast camera for anyone looking for their next mirrorless camera with reliable performance and excellent image quality. The Nikon Z50 was released in November 2019, about 1 year after the initial release of the full frame mirrorless cameras Z6 and Z7. The ability to record 4K UHD video is icing on the cake. It is capable of shooting with high ISO speeds and providing great results in low light environments. It is lighter and smaller, which makes it an ideal option for traveling. The Nikon Z50 is an excellent all-round performer. You may get many more than this with better use of OVF and LCD combination. Nikon Z50 uses the Proprietary EN-EL25 battery which allows it to capture 280 shots per charge. This makes portrait photography efficient and simple. Z50 is also the first DX-format camera from Nikon to employ Eye-Detection AF, which recognizes and focuses on a subject’s eyes instantly, even if they are moving. Thanks to a 209-point Hybrid AF System, the camera locks focus very quickly and accurately, even in incredibly low light. The autofocus performance of this camera is excellent. The camera also features additional built-in stabilization while recording for smooth footage. The camera also features built-in 120p time-lapse, slow-motion, and interval timer as well as 20 Creative Picture Controls and in-camera video trimming. Vibrant, sharp video recording at high resolution is just the beginning with Nikon Z50. Full HD 1080p 60 fps recording is also supported. The footage provided is detailed as the video capture is from the center of the sensor. The Z50 is capable of recording up to 4K UHD video at 24p/25p/30p. In fact, the image quality of Nikon Z50 is the highest for a cropped sensor camera. It offers larger pixels which means better dynamic range performance, leading to more capturing details from the shadows and the highlights, as well as less image noise, for better overall image quality. For the cost of the camera, this is a very strong sensor. The sensor of Z50 is similar in terms of quality to the DSLR-style DX lineup from Nikon. Included in Z50’s body are a 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen, high-resolution electronic viewfinder, and a pop-up flash. It has fewer buttons as compared to Z7 and Z6, but contact icons replace a few of the functionality of the camera’s physical control keys. The design features weather-sealing and magnesium build. It could be physically lighter and smaller sized than full-frame Z models but still has the similar deep grip that is very comfortable to carry. The Nikon Z50 features an ergonomic and sleek design. 4K Video at Up to 30p from 1.5x Crop of Sensor. It combines well-thought out camera operation with the unparalleled potential of the Z-mount system, allowing you to capture stunning images. Unlike the Z6 and Z7 full-frame cameras, the Z50 is the first cropped sensor mirrorless camera from the manufacturer. Smaller in design but bigger in image quality, the Nikon Z50 allows you to unleash your creativity from day one.
